Macahambus Mini-Adventure, Cagayan de Oro City

July 31, 2006. Considering that I was with my mother, ninang, and three 50+ and 60+ yr-old yayas, I guess this was a pretty good adventure. Short and sweet, and for only P300, we got to walk across a 154-m long bridge hanging over a 150-foot deep gorge, and then slide back to the starting point sitting only on a canvas harness. Going into the cave overlooking the Cagayan River, the site of the first Filipino victory against the Americans, was totally free. The best thing about this place is that it's just near the CDO airport. Could've rappeled down a tree to the entrance of a bigger cave, too, but by then we were so hungry, we totally forgot about it.

Good reason to come back then, aside from the whitewater-rafting =D

  6. hi ada! sorry, late reply. dunno how much the MLA-CDO flight costs now (then again, you could always take a boat...but that might not be much cheaper now, either). from the airport, i suppose you could take a taxi going to macahambus. it's quite near once you're there. it's in the lumbia area. didn't notice if there was any public transport going through that highway. for this mini-adventure, you'll need about 2 hours max (if you're taking lots of pictures), maybe another hour for rappelling. for whitewater rafting you'll need 3-4 hours.

  9. Lagi, sayang wala mi naka whitewater rafting. I've only done it in davao, and of course, people from each place will always say theirs is better. Got an invitation to go there for free the other summer to write an article, but had to go to bacolod =P Next time again, i hope.
