beauty is in the eye of the beholder

UPDATE just got back from a week-long trip to iloilo-roxas-panay-kalibo-boracay-tangalan for work. that's three provinces in eight days. went to the old buswang magrove eco park in kalibo. walked from station 2 to station 1 and back at least four times in boracay, by myself. visited the tangalan marine sanctuary and falls. sang unlimited videoke on my last night, danced in a bar, and drank the most alcohol i've probably had in my whole life (a jar of margarita and 3 shots of tequila in boracay and i don't know how many glasses of gold eagle beer in tangalan--but i STILL didn't get drunk or get a hangover. wonder when that will happen). woke up early every day to sit by the beach and look for good photos, on the last day even catching the sun just as it rose. but just in case you get any glamorous ideas about my life, the rest of the time i was working--even on a sunday =P will be posting photos and articles from the trip when i get the time. picked up at least three story ideas on that trip. thing is, i'm leaving for palawan (finally! God is good! =) on thursday for a workshop on resource valuation and technical writing. just found out today, when i reported back to the office. i think i'll be gone for a week again. which means i'll be missing our anniversary party on saturday (!) where i'm supposed to sing the invocation. and now, for the first time i'm posting one of these blog quizzes here because it's really interesting hehehe... found it in one of my contacts' contacts' blogs. totoo ba?? take the test yourself. the result of the second one i won't take any responsibility for. among other things, i certainly HAVEN'T had enough practice.

Being Brown... again

In 2002, I wrote an  #essay for one of my Sun.Star columns titled "It Ain't Easy Being Brown" . In March 2016, I suddenly got requests from university students in different parts of the  #Philippines  to interview me about this essay for their class. The essay wasn't online and they had to ask me for a copy, so I have no idea how their teachers thought to assign it as a text. In October 2017, I was contacted by students from yet another school telling me that they had chosen the same essay to make a  #shortfilm  on for a school competition. Again, no idea how they got hold of it. But since my essays are  #autobiographical , it was basically a film based on my life. Sharing it now because it's just so hilarious 😂 especially their portrayal of my parents. It's so amazing what kids can do with the technology these days. It Ain’t Easy Being Brown

Every time I walk down a grocery’s toiletries section, an overly eager, mestiza sales lady blocks my path, wielding the latest whitening product.
