ANI 33 Book Launch

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) invites you to the launching of ANI 33 (Nature and Environment) on Friday, 14 September 2007 at 6:33 pm at the CCP Ramp.


The launch marks the 20th anniversary of the literary journal, one of the longest surviving literary publications in the Philippines today.


Contributors and guest artists will read or perform works included in the anthology aimed at focusing anew our attention on the environment which has recently brought about tragic events to thousands of Filipinos.


We hope you will join us in making this occasion a memorable one.

    huwaw! an honorarium?? and two books?? CCP's more generous than the more popular publications :P yes, please :) i told cris about this, too, so hope you get to meet him there, since you didn't get to meet a few years back.


    and maybe i'll just allow myself to be surprised about which works :P

    Owh, Jemi is here diay sa Pinas. Yeah, it would be good to meet her in person. i will make arrangements... will you give me her mobile? maybe we can meet at harbor square ahead of time para talagang wag ma-late... :)
    or feast on something after using the honorarium hahaha

Being Brown... again

In 2002, I wrote an  #essay for one of my Sun.Star columns titled "It Ain't Easy Being Brown" . In March 2016, I suddenly got requests from university students in different parts of the  #Philippines  to interview me about this essay for their class. The essay wasn't online and they had to ask me for a copy, so I have no idea how their teachers thought to assign it as a text. In October 2017, I was contacted by students from yet another school telling me that they had chosen the same essay to make a  #shortfilm  on for a school competition. Again, no idea how they got hold of it. But since my essays are  #autobiographical , it was basically a film based on my life. Sharing it now because it's just so hilarious 😂 especially their portrayal of my parents. It's so amazing what kids can do with the technology these days. It Ain’t Easy Being Brown

Every time I walk down a grocery’s toiletries section, an overly eager, mestiza sales lady blocks my path, wielding the latest whitening product.
