Salmon Run on Salmon River, Pulaski, New York (Part 1)

These are the salmon trying to go up the river to spawn. But they can't because the river has been deliberately blocked by this green metal fence. Imagine these fish two to three feet long exerting all their energies doing what they were made to do, not knowing that the path of their lives has been changed.

  1. gosh, neen. at least the scots in pitlochry were nice enough to build a fish ladder for the salmon to use when they swim upstream. they too had to block the river when they built the dam. this is just... sad.

  2. actually, this isn't even for the dam (THAT's another story). this is so the salmon will go into the hatchery so they can control the production of salmon. i mean sure, it means the river will never run out of salmon. but really, they're doing it more to support the sportfishing industry in new york than to keep the ecosystem balanced. mass production so they can allow an unlimited number of people to buy licenses to fish in the river.
