Cell Phone Waste Collection Pilot Project

The Government of the Philippines, through the Board of Investments-Department of Trade and Industry (BOI-DTI), is currently undertaking the €¦’³Study on the Recycling Industry Development in the Philippines€¦’´ with technical assistance from the Government of Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Three pilot projects will be implemented under the Study, one of which is on Cell Phone Waste Collection and Recycling that aims to increase awareness on the proper disposal of cell phone wastes (e.g., cell phone batteries, chargers, cell phone units and accessories) and assess the feasibility of establishing cell phone waste collection in designated areas.

Ingredients:
The Cell Phone Wastes Collection and Recycling Pilot Project was launched on 14 September 2007 with the support of partners composed of government (DTI, DENR), cell phone manufacturers (Alcatel, LG Electronics, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Globe Telecom, Smart Communications, and Sun Cellular), network service providers (Globe Telecom, Smart Communications, and Sun Cellular), selected mall owners (Ayala Malls Group, Ortigas & Company Ltd., and SM Prime Holdings), transport and storage facility (HMR Envirocycle Philippines), JICA and local consultant, SAGIP Environment.

The said Pilot Project involves the installation of 18 collection bins at Glorietta/Greenbelt, Greenhills Shopping Center, and SM Megamall, as well as one bin each in the DTI-BOI and DENR Offices. The collected wastes will then be sorted, and stored in the temporary storage area at the malls, and these will then be collected by HMR Envirocycle for processing.

    Wow! ;) Anyways, since I love Ayala akong drama... the Ayala Group of Companies is so strong in their waste management advocacy... ;) Every month they have this waste collection event called waste market... basta collection of special wastes dinhi sa metro manila. ;)

Being Brown... again

In 2002, I wrote an  #essay for one of my Sun.Star columns titled "It Ain't Easy Being Brown" . In March 2016, I suddenly got requests from university students in different parts of the  #Philippines  to interview me about this essay for their class. The essay wasn't online and they had to ask me for a copy, so I have no idea how their teachers thought to assign it as a text. In October 2017, I was contacted by students from yet another school telling me that they had chosen the same essay to make a  #shortfilm  on for a school competition. Again, no idea how they got hold of it. But since my essays are  #autobiographical , it was basically a film based on my life. Sharing it now because it's just so hilarious 😂 especially their portrayal of my parents. It's so amazing what kids can do with the technology these days. It Ain’t Easy Being Brown
