better late than later


...as cris said. so here are the post-birthday presents that still made it in november, in order of arrival:


1) from jemi - a Jude Deveraux book (about three women who have the same birthday and travel back in time to change their lives =), reminiscent of high school and the classic A Knight in Shining Armor) and a Maya Angelou card


2) from mama (who likes to give in excess) - aside from a balikbayan box of clothes that actually fit me, gummy candy, the november angel, and some other stuff that came in september, plus the bill for my birthday dinner, this package arrived last sunday: a denim jacket, a black purse, clinique lip gloss, birthday candles, other little things, and food (which you can no longer see in the picture)


3) from cris - flowers (with silver dust and beads of water to boot!) that arrived yesterday. the delivery guy even got lost because of a wrong address and started calling all the houses in our compound looking for me. sent from a cebu flower shop, though he's in davao , and probably ordered while he was in manila. just to make sure daw i get flowers in november  now ain't that sweet? oh, and his birthday's just a day after mine, too. ashley kept sniffing the flowers.


and i also got a cute card from my brother josrique, who said he wanted to greet me some other way than text this time.


last night was out on the street with the neighborhood kids playing with their dog chucky instead of doing the work i was supposed to do. thought i needed some exercise  photos of that to appear in my album shortly (because it's a new month and i can upload 150 photos again!). gave ashley a bath afterwards. have work again whole day saturday. haven't had a free weekend since my birthday. and the work year is ending in two weeks! lots of things on my mind right now...wonder where i'll be next year?

    hey, am interested in these 'other little things.' can't make them out well in the pic. are those pens? what are those clip things with those colored banners?

    sorry to hear that. i'm just a few steps away if you want a comforting cry at fine cuisine :D and yes, thanks very much for the carrier. sorry it didn't come with a buko pie.

    the other little things: four colored birthday candles, two clinique perfume samples wrapped like candy (or candles. actually was a bit disappointed they weren't candy hehe), and four office clips that say things like "copy", "urgent" and "thank you". my mother says the clips were the most expensive, even more than the denim jacket ;P

    and no i won't be at the WILA meeting =( and the situation's bigger than that, actually. talk to you soon. (oh and i heard an article on our anniversary came out in sun.star two weeks ago or so? i was probably out of town).

Being Brown... again

In 2002, I wrote an  #essay for one of my Sun.Star columns titled "It Ain't Easy Being Brown" . In March 2016, I suddenly got requests from university students in different parts of the  #Philippines  to interview me about this essay for their class. The essay wasn't online and they had to ask me for a copy, so I have no idea how their teachers thought to assign it as a text. In October 2017, I was contacted by students from yet another school telling me that they had chosen the same essay to make a  #shortfilm  on for a school competition. Again, no idea how they got hold of it. But since my essays are  #autobiographical , it was basically a film based on my life. Sharing it now because it's just so hilarious 😂 especially their portrayal of my parents. It's so amazing what kids can do with the technology these days. It Ain’t Easy Being Brown
