The Amazing Bikers of Dalaguete

Image
There's just something about Dalaguete that's different from the other towns in southern Cebu. I don't know what, but it certainly shows in their bikers.... Some pix are blurred because I was using my manual SLR, and sometimes I couldn't keep up with the speed and the fading light.

The Children of Oslob

Image
Over the past year, I've taken quite a lot of pictures of the kids in Oslob, in the particular barangays I've been to. But i'm posting here the most recent one I took, on Earth Day (April 22), after a crown-of-thorns clean-up in Sumilon Island , Barangay Bangcogon. One of my summer trips . I'm also including here the very first pix of myself (hehe) on Sumilon, as well as portraits of some of the people who protect the island.

Singapore Scenes

Image
Mostly taken with my heavy SLR. If you want to see more of Singapore, check out my other Singapore albums or my brother's page (because he owns the digital camera and took almost all of the other pix, anyway). But as you can see, these photos I took with my manual SLR are much brighter and more vivid than the pix with the digital cam, especially the night shots (these are all handheld bulb shots again, minimum of 2 seconds, max of 10).

Singapore: Getting There and Around

Image
June 9 to 11, 2005. Three days walking in the streets, the zoos and all the other attractions. We actually arrived June 8 in the evening, and left June 12 early in the morning. Went with my brother and father, who took the plane in davao, which made a stopover in cebu before proceeding to singapore. In three days, went to Sentosa, Malay Village, Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, Fort Canning, Armenian Street, Hop-on Bus around Chinatown and other areas in the colonial district, Botanic Gardens, Little India, Arab Street, Suntec City, Esplanade, Boat up the Singapore River, and finally ending at the reverse bungee at Clarke Quay at 1 a.m. No shopping, even with the Great Singapore Sale on at the time. Ate quite a lot of strange, spicy food in their food markets. I'll be posting mostly people shots taken with my brother's digital camera. Only brought one roll of film for my heavy camera, so used it sparingly =P

The Cats of Singapore

Image
Like nothing I've seen in the Philippines...and I KNOW cats. (and this doesn't include the civets and leopards and leopard cats and fishing cat and servals we saw at the Night Safari--cuuute!)

And you thought saving the earth was just about saving those cute, endangered animals?

Image
Most people think protecting the environment is about protecting trees from being cut, and adorable animals like tarsiers and dolphins from going into extinction. We forget the most important creatures of all: we human beings who have the greatest power to protect or destroy nature, and who are also the most affected by environmental change.   Every human being has the right to live, we say, but how can anyone live without clean food, water, and air, and an environment safe from disease and disasters? The right to live, then, means the right to a healthy environment, and the right to access and use natural resources, whether we’re rich or poor. Here are four major resources that not only affect the cute animals, but also shape the quality of our lives, with the life-saving principles to adopt when we use these resources.   ENERGY: Stop the Killer Fumes We need energy for everything--driving our cars, cooking our food, turning on our airconditioners, even charging our cell phon...
